This piece is one in a series that came from a song. In 'It's in your heart now', Dan Bejar quavers the thought that threatens to undermine daily pretences: you want to go home, somehow. For an unexpected immigrant, home can be elusive. The unabashed quiet longing of the song freed me to draw an unapologetic red heart.

This A4 work was made by coating a sheet of watercolour paper with a light-sensitive iron solution and using a pencil drawing on transparent paper as a photographic negative. After exposing to the sun, I washed the cyanotype first in a vinegar bath, then in a water bath. After drying, I used soft pastels and wax crayons to complete the drawing, then embellished with embroidery.

I hope you enjoy the work as much as I did making it. I will ship it wrapped in protective tissue paper and in a hard-backed envelope for safety.

It's in your heart now
